Level 2 Detail of experimental conditions (what might be found in a journal paper or project brief in Hydstra)
Description of study
What?
The effect of land use types (sugarcane, grazing and forestry) on stream water quality were determined during a three year sampling study.
When and Where?
The study commenced in October 1992 and concluded in May 1995. Thirty seven sites were chosen, each within the Herbert River. Figure 1 and Table 1 provide further details on site location and physical characteristics.
How?
Surface grab samples of river water were taken at monthly and after intense rainfall events at each site. Samples were then filtered through 0.7 µm Whatman GF/F filters. EC and pH were determined from a subsample of unfiltered water and the remaining filtrate was frozen prior to chemical analysis. Concentrations of orthophosphate, nitrate and ammonium were determined using an Alpkem segmented flow analyser.
